Terminal Planner at Tincan Island Container Terminal

Tincan Island Container Terminal Limited (TICT), established in 2004, is a multinational company operating in Nigeria with its Terminal located at Tin-can Island Port, Terminal B (2nd Gate), Apapa, Lagos and has its Head Office at 1/3 Point Road, Apapa, Lagos. After a very competitive bidding process, TICT emerged as the concessionaire of Terminal B, Tincan Island Port. Armed with a long-term lease agreement with the Federal Government of Nigeria, and an unwavering commitment to continued investment in Port development, we are poised to position ourselves as a key industry player within the African sub-region.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Terminal Planner

Location: Apapa, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Responsibilities
Vessel & Berth Planning:

• Develop detailed operational plans for vessel arrivals, stowage, and departures in line with terminal capacity and schedule constraints.
• Allocate berths efficiently based on vessel specifications, expected cargo volumes, and operational requirements.
• Coordinate pre-arrival planning with shipping lines and port authorities to ensure timely and safe berthing.

Cargo & Yard Operations Planning:

• Design and implement cargo handling plans to ensure optimal flow of containerized goods from ship to yard and vice versa.
• Ensure cargo segregation and special handling instructions (e.g., hazardous goods, reefers) are properly planned.
• Monitor and adjust yard stacking strategies to maximize space utilization and operational efficiency.

Stakeholder Coordination:

• Collaborate with internal teams (yard, gate, equipment control, and marine operations) to align plans and resources.
• Liaise with external parties such as shipping lines, agents, stevedores, and port authorities to coordinate operations and share critical updates.
• Respond proactively to schedule changes, delays, or operational disruptions by adjusting planning in real time.

Safety & Compliance:

• Ensure that all vessel and yard plans comply with local and international maritime safety regulations.
• Identify and mitigate risks associated with equipment usage, vessel berthing, and cargo operations.
• Participate in safety drills, audits, and reviews as needed.

System & Data Management:

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date planning data in the Terminal Operating System (TOS) and planning software (e.g., Navis N4).
• Track, analyze, and report on KPIs such as crane productivity, berth occupancy, and vessel turnaround times.
• Implement digital tools and automation solutions to enhance planning accuracy and reduce manual errors.

Requirements

• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Maritime Studies, Port Operations, or a related discipline.
• 3 - 5 years’ experience in terminal planning, vessel operations, or yard logistics in a high-throughput terminal.
