Training Consultant at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control


The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is the government agency with the mandate to coordinate the surveillance, detection and response to infectious disease outbreaks. Over the last three years, NCDC has deployed a new tool for disease surveillance. The Surveillance, Outbreak Response Management and Analysis System (SORMAS) is a system jointly developed between the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) to improve disease surveillance as well as detection and management of outbreaks and thus strengthen the public health service in Nigeria.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

Job Title: Training Consultant

Job Summary

  • NCDC is recruiting 6 Training Consultants to join the Global Fund- COVID-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM) funded IPC project. The successful candidates will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) training programs and workshops funded through the Global Fund's COVID-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM).
  • S(he) will collaborate closely with the National Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Program Coordinator. Three will be domiciled within the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and the other three at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL).
  • S(he) will be based in Abuja in the National Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Program.
  • S(he) will collaborate with various stakeholders across the Nigerian Health System and other key subject matter experts to determine training needs.
  • The position holder shall collaborate with the National Coordinator of the National IPC Program and the IPC Project Manager and shall serve as the point of contact in providing training facilitation.
  • The post holder requires strong data management and quantitative skills with a 30% travel expectation to the field.

Main Activities and Responsibilities
Knowledge Generation:

  • Support delivery of IPC training courses as part of the Diploma in IPC program delivered through CMUL. 
  • Facilitate courses through in-person and online platforms, providing engaging and interactive sessions for participants. 
  • Create and update training materials, resources, and documentation to align with the latest infection prevention and control guidelines, protocols, and best practices.
  • Establish a national framework for responding to and managing outbreaks of HAIs.
  • Coordinate with regional and local authorities during outbreaks to ensure effective control measures.
  • Offer ongoing mentorship and support to course participants, helping them apply IPC principles effectively in their daily practices.
  • Provide facilitation for IPC workshops to build the capacity of state and facility IPC focal points (as needed).

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Medicine, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Microbiology, Public Health, or related field from an accredited/recognized university with at least 5 years of experience implementing IPC programs in low-and middle-income countries. 
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, including the ability to demonstrate empathy. 
  • Positive and professional attitude, including working well in a team setting. 
  • Good Zoom and Microsoft Office command, especially Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • IPC certification, preferably a postgraduate diploma, is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in facilitating training programs. Experience in IPC training programs preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of international and national IPC guidelines and standards.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Good command of Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Proficient in the use of Project management tools and statistical analysis package
