Job Title: Junior Accountant

Location: Uyo, Akwa Ibom
Employment Type: Full-time

Role Summary

  • The Junior Accountant will support the Finance Department in managing daily accounting tasks, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with established financial procedures.
  • The role is responsible for transaction posting, reconciliations, documentation, and supporting month-end and year-end reporting activities.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Transaction Processing:

  • Record daily financial transactions accurately into the accounting system.
  • Process invoices, receipts, payments, and expense retirements.
  • Assist in verifying, allocating, and posting accounts payable and receivable entries.
  • Support vendor and customer account management.

Reconciliation and Reporting:

  • Assist with bank reconciliations, petty cash reconciliations, and ledger reconciliations.
  • Help prepare monthly financial statements and reports for review by the Finance Manager.
  • Maintain reconciliation schedules and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Support preparation of audit schedules and documentation.

Departmental and Administrative Support:

  • Respond to internal inquiries regarding financial transactions or budget status.
  • Support the Finance Manager in ad-hoc financial analysis, reports, or special projects.
  • Liaise with procurement, admin, and other departments for document verification.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Maintain proper filing of invoices, receipts, payment vouchers, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, internal controls, and accounting standards.
  • Assist with tax documentation (VAT, WHT, PAYE) and liaise with tax authorities when required.
  • Update and maintain vendor and customer records.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • 0 – 3 years experience in an accounting or finance role.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, SAP).
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and standards.
  • NYSC completion is an advantage.
