Transport Planning Engineer (Microwave & Fiber) at Airtel Nigeria

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

Job Title: Transport Planning Engineer (Microwave & Fiber)

Location: Lagos
Job Type: Full Time

Job Summary 

  • This is a vital position to support design & planning of network units and providing technical solutions for connecting cell sites and enterprise customer locations for excellent customer experience.
  • This person will be interacting with the Partners’ teams very extensively. Robust, flexible and state of art fiber and microwave transmission network planning & delivery are the essence of the role.

Responsibilities
Network Design & Planning:

  • Design and plan microwave links using tools such as Pathloss, Map-Info, Google Pro
  • Develop transmission network topology (SDH, DWDM, IP/MPLS)
  • Ensure scalability and resilience in network architecture
  • Plan and design a scalable and reliable end to end transmission network for all enterprise customers accordingly to achieve best Customer QoE (Quality of Experience) 

Regulatory & Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) standards
  • Manage frequency licensing and spectrum coordination

Stakeholder Management:

  • Liaise with vendors, partners, and internal teams
  • Provide technical guidance to operations and maintenance teams
  • Present planning strategies to senior management

Capacity & Performance Management:

  • Forecast transmission capacity requirements
  • Optimize bandwidth utilization and link performance
  • Conduct regular performance audits and recommend optimization strategies

Project Implementation:

  • Prepare detailed planning reports and documentation
  • Collaborate with project managers and field engineers for deployment and integration
  • Support rollout of new sites and upgrades

Operations Support:

  • Provide technical support to Operations teams for troubleshooting transmission and microwave network issues
  • Ensure smooth handover of planned projects to Operations, including documentation and training
  • Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
  • Provide planning support for network improvements projects; rain and harmattan readiness, dehubbing, traffic splitting, network re-engineering
  • Collaborate with Network Operations Center (NOC) to monitor link availability and resolve outages quickly

Network QoS (Quality of Service):

  • Work closely with Core Network and Radio teams to ensure QoS alignment across domains
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and regulatory benchmarks
  • Work closely with Enterprise and FTTx teams to ensure QoS alignment across domains
  • Provide Transmission planning support for retainability and accesssibility KPI; packet loss, jitters, latency, TNL drops and RNA (Radio Network Availability)

Educational Qualifications  

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electronics & communications engineering

Relevant Experience & Functional / Technical Skills:

  • More than 5 years’ experience in Transport Planning (Access & BB MW)
  • Sound knowledge of fiber optics network for Mobile & Enterprise Network  - Planning
  • Experience in optical fiber networks design, DWDM
  • MBPN and IP design
  • Ericsson or Huawei Transmission experience is required
