Tax Assistant Requirements, Skills & Qualifications

The following common skills and qualifications are required of a Tax Assistant:

  • Bachelor's degree in a numerate discipline
  • Basic understanding of the tax laws and regulations
  • Ability to use tax software programs
  • Customer service skills
  • A high attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent in communicating both verbally and in writing
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Proficiency in computer programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and database systems
