Immigration Officer Duties & Responsibilities

The role and function of an Immigration Officer includes the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Interviewing the passenger for more information
  • Observing passengers passing through passport control areas
  • Examining passports and visas
  • Arranging for them to go back to their point of departure
  • Carrying out intelligence-based activities
  • Organising a place in a holding area (for example, when a person is claiming asylum).
  • Organising surveillance
  • Visiting and interviewing people who are suspected of having no right to remain in a particular country.
  • Writing reports
